How to Declutter and Organise your Wardrobe

With a global pandemic present and being forced to self-isolate, the thought of being stuck at home can be very daunting. It is essential to keep yourself occupied at this time as not only is our physical health at risk but so too is our mental health. What better way to keep yourself busy than by decluttering and organising your wardrobe! With all the new Winter season stock available it’s also perfect for freeing up some space in your wardrobe for your new season essentials! Here are some ways to declutter and organise your wardrobe.

#1 Be Ruthless

Let’s be honest, we all find ourselves clinging onto items we don’t need “just in case” Decluttering and organising your wardrobe is the perfect time to say goodbye to this habit. The best way to do this is remove all items from your wardrobe and make three piles; one for items you want to keep, one for items you are unsure of and one for items you definitely do not want. This way you can start building your wardrobe from scratch and keep it minimalistic.

#2 Come Prepared

Ever find yourself half-way through cleaning your room, knee deep in piles of clothing and regretting your decision? The best way to combat this is choosing a day to organise your wardrobe where you have minimal errands planned and can designate 2-3 hours to the task. That way you won’t feel distracted or overwhelmed. Make sure to also have items like shopping bags for items you don’t want to keep, a tape measure for measuring out space for new storage options and a full-length mirror to try on clothing and determine what items you want to keep.

#3 Consider External Storage Solutions

Something a lot of people forget is that we do not need all of our clothing in our wardrobe at the same time. This may include items like winter jackets and endless amounts of bikinis and beachwear. It might be a good idea to place them in storage to create extra space and less clutter. This is also a great way to deal with the “unsure box” of items from step #1 to see whether you really need these items or not. Companies such as Hire Storage are great to use. It is a secured facility that is monitored 24/7, centrally located and accessible 6 days a week, has the convenience to store from a few days to years, and is affordable. The removalists collect your belongings, safely store it, and will return it to you when you are ready. It makes moving and storing just that much easier and less stressful knowing you have professionals to help you out.

#4 Donate Unwated Items

Have you considered that clearing out your wardrobe could mean doing something good for others? With the items you do not want, consider donating the suitable ones to charity. With heaps of clothing being put into landfill a year, you are doing something good for others whilst also being mindful of the environment. Another way to do something good is to have a clothing sale and donate all proceeds to a charity of your choice.

Let me know how you go with decluttering and organising your wardrobe.
